Antimicrobial stewardship and infection prevention and control

Dear colleagues,

With great pleasure we would like to inform you that a hybrid, 3-day advanced ESCMID Postgraduate Education Course on Antimicrobial Stewardship and Infection Prevention and Control will take place in Greece (Athens), from (29 November – 1 December 2024). The organizers, hoping to meet the expectations of the participants, have made every possible effort to draw up a high- level scientific program with a wide range of the latest scientific developments in the AMS and IPC field.

The aim of this 3-day advanced ESCMID postgraduate educational course on Antimicrobial Stewardship and Infection Prevention and Control is to improve the understanding of appropriate antimicrobial use among doctors, hospital pharmacists and other healthcare providers, and to optimize the efforts to achieve maximal control of infections emerging and spread, especially regarding infections caused by multidrug-resistant organisms.

More specifically, topics related to appropriate dosing and route of administration of antimicrobials, newer antimicrobials for multidrug-resistant pathogens, and combination of antimicrobials and their ideal use for medical and surgical prophylaxis will be addressed in this course. Furthermore, the role of antimicrobial stewardship in emerging infectious diseases and in zoonoses and the use of non-antibiotic therapies to combat microbial infections will be discussed.

The ESCMID advanced course on IPC provides the students with an update on topic -specific Infection control and prevention both in the health care settings and in the community. The educational aims target blooming issues in this field to deepen the students’ knowledge, expertise and confidence in the complex and dynamic field of IPC in different environments of care, vaccination prevention, preparedness for emerging threats, unresolved issues and innovative technologies used. Moreover, the participants will trace infection control through quality of care, patient safety and behavior change aspects.
